Naked:MOTHERS OF MANIPUR

The protest by 12 elderly women in Imphal on July 15, 2004 outside the headquarters of the Assam Rifles paramilitary force. They were protesting against the killing of Thangjam Manorama. (AFP)Updated: Feb 25, 2017 11:37 ISTByTeresa Rehman, Hindustan Times Dusk was setting on the streets of Imphal. An elderly woman, holding a bag in her hand and her grandchild in the other was talking angrily to a vegetable vendor. My friend explained that the lady was annoyed with the constant frisking by the security forces that takes place in her hometown. “This is my land. I grew up here. I should be asking them to show their identity cardsto me. I should be frisking them,” she was heard saying. What could be more real and poignant than that! These words of the grandmother reverberated in my mind whenever I thought of Imphal, the capital of Manipur. For me, Manipur is more than just another dot on the map. I have reported on myriad issues from the state. Whenever I went there, walking on the streets and in the marketplaces of Imphal, I tried to soak myself in the life and times of contemporary Manipur. Every time I spoke to the women, I imbibed something new. Among the many incidents that touched me was the furious nude protest by 12 elderly women, mothers, in front of the Kangla Fort in Imphal on July 15, 2004. They were protesting the death of 32-year-oldThangjam Manorama, an alleged militant. Manorama was picked up from her house on July 11 and later shot dead by 17 Assam Rifles personnel amidst claims and counter claims.I wanted to dig deeper. I was eager to know more about these 12 women and Iembarked on my journey. It was a surprisingly fulfilling one with me often sitting with these grandmothers near their kitchen hearths, in their courtyards, or in their small shops as they told me their stories -- of trials, laughter, fears, aspirations -- accompanied by warm hugs. I made an extra effort to meet them during my reporting assignments to Manipur. Like typical grandmothers, they showered me with love and affection, made me feel at home, cooked for me, and laughed with me. It was like talking to my elderly aunts and grand aunts at a family gathering. They were wise. They had seen the world. There were many things I could learn from them. They were ready to bare their hearts to me.Teresa Rahman’s book isn’t just a collection of the biographies of these women. It is an attempt at understanding the problem in Manipur. (Anis Ul Haque)Some of them were surprised that I waslooking for them and that I wanted to unearth their stories. One of them told me that nobody had ever bothered to meet her or ask her what she wanted. Some of them are resentful and are always ready to speak up for a cause. They are also intelligent homemakers, sane mothers to their children and lovable grandmothers with bagfuls of stories to tell to their grandchildren. After talking to them I always felt a sense of catharsis; a sense that there ishope beyond the conflict. For peace. I had their stories of extraordinary resilience buried deep in my notebooks and in my heart.Years and seasons passed by. The nude protest settled down as a hazy memory in Manipur’s consciousness. I waited for someone to write about these 12 stellar women. One day, I got the news that one of the mothers had died. That was the day I felt that perhaps I should be the one to tell their stories. These were stories that I had always wanted to tell the world. I strongly feel that to understand a conflict, we need to listen to the voices of the people. It is important that these stories be told without being judgemental. The words and wisdom of these women will lead us to a better understanding of the way conflict affects the lives of people. This book is not merely a collection of the biographies of these women. I have tried to weave in many other tales – history, legends, anecdotes and stories of contemporary Manipur. I have tried tolook beyond the headlines with my understanding of the trouble-torn state. The book is also my trek as a journalist into the state whose name literally means, ‘a land of jewels’. Singer Akhu Chingangbam startles me with the ironyof his words: “There are guns pointed atyou all the time. I feel life is too short not to sing all that I see. I want to be contemporary and talk about my generation.”For me, writing this book has been an agonising, exhilarating, inspiring and most importantly, a cathartic experience. These are living stories of the thinness of present times and will hopefully help future generations to learn, understand, and cherish. These stories have immense possibilities. I wrote this book also in the hope that these stories will open many more windows and will lead us to a better understanding of gender and conflict in the region.

Kunan-Poshpora Memory : Story of the toddler who fell from the windowAnonymousFebruary 23, 2017February,RapeLeave a CommentI was child in my mother’s lap when she was raped in 1991. I have no memories of the incident, but as I grew up a defect in my leg made me to investigate and subsequently realize what had transpired on that dark night. The incident had created doubts on women and we were not allowed to move out of the house because our family wouldfear that we might fall prey to military violence. My earliest memories o
f my life was the realization that I was crippled withmy leg and since I was weak enough to safeguard myself I justified my families strictness towards my mobility. But, as I grew up, a cousin once told me the reason of my deformity. She told me that my mother was raped and I was smashed down from the window of the second storey of my house. It was when my mother tried to escape from the army, who were trying to rape her. In an attempt to save herself — with me in her lap– she tried to jump off the window. But she couldn’t and instead I felt off and met my terrible fate. I got a terrible defect in my leg. I can’t walk properly.Life was never the same again. Nobody can take the burden of my life. I don’t knowwho to hold responsible. No man can tolerate a disabled girl. Can anyone? I am dependent on my family and I feel powerless and in no way can I help myself. My parents would help me to get this leg cured but our poverty stopped them. In 2009, I was hospitalised for about two months in a Srinagar hospital, but they said cure was possible in Chandigarh. We had no money so we stopped the treatment.I could have managed to work in the fields and supported my family, but this one incident changed my life forever. I can’t go and catch hold of someone and ask for marriage. Many girls in my village came back as their in-laws would taunt them about the rapes that happened in this village. There is stigma attached to such issues, and my condition is worse because I am disabled too.At home, I burden my parents. No one would tolerate to keep me when I am a dysfunctional member of a family. Only when I can contribute, other family members will accept me. If you just sit down doing nothing then you mean nothing to anybody in this world. My parents are worried and have to protectme as they are not able to get me married. They have this immense burden of supporting me because marriage seems impossible. I am suffering now on a different scale, an endless emotional torture from my family. I am sure it happening with other women in the village too, but for me my disability has aggravated it to dangerous extremes.Sometimes even my mother is not the same. It perturbs me. She as a woman hasfaced a different scale of violence but yet at times even she fails to understand my position and hurts me. I let it go, after all she is my mother and she loves me nevertheless whatever I am......thks

I was born in Montreal and grew up there. When I was a young kid I was really good in school and I’m sure my mum had high hope in me because I was her first child.“Everything change when I was looking forAdmire, I was staying with my mum and her husband, and I needed I father figure because I never had one, this pushed me to the street.“At the age of 13 I started behaving like other kids in school who used drugs and followed girls, at 15 I became so bad that I was put in juvenile jail for few months and I didn’t stop. This made my mum to send me back to Switzerland where I worked forher brother, where I worked for three.“At 17 I cooled off and at 18 I started and was sent to jail for two years, in jail I learntthat happiness was based on material things. My time in jail made me to be criminally minded. I was Christian before but was not praying. I only prayed when I was into something bad.“In jail I prayed and while reading the Bible but I didn’t feel touched. Shortly someone I could not see gave me the Quran.“When I came out of jail I started looking for money, and because I had no school, the fastest way was the criminal way. Every bay was of getting money I was involved in it. For ten years I lived the life of luxury, power and respect.“I had all a lot of luxury but I was not happy, I had cars but was renting, had houses but was staying in hotel suits because I was not happy.“I lived a millionaire life for ten years and at the end I was questioning my self the essence because there was no happiness.I was caught again and sent to jail for 11 months and due to my record I was put in the maximum area with people with more money.“At the end of my sentence, I met a Muslim brother who told me about Islam and he promised to send me the Quran but he never did. When I got up, I went back to my life and I met a woman who is a Muslim who made me to do research on the Quoran.“During my research, I found that Islam was the truth, I took Mazadhazad three days after my mum called me, saying the police was looking for me, I met with my lawyer and they asked me to give myself in and I did for the first time as a Muslim.“My love for Islam is because it gives me happiness, the happiness that money, women, crime never gave me. I have todayseen young Muslims wishing to compromise because they don’t value what they have.“I never thought I will be a Muslim, the terrible thing you see in the media about Islam is not the real truth. You can know better about Islam when you read the Quran. Think by self and read the Quran and learn about Islam.”....thanks for your time please save the site to keep yourself updated

Airtel is sending a notification to its post-paid users that they can get additional 10GB data for Rs 100.Published on 22,Fab: Begin the telecom wars have. A day after Jio announced the Prime serviceand said that it would offer 30GB 4G data for Rs 303, Airtel is sending a notification to its post-paid users that they can getadditional 10GB data for Rs 100.This data, surprise offer by Airtel, will be in addition to whatever the existing plan the users subscribes. This means if you have a Rs 500 planthat gives you 3GB data, you will be able to spend another Rs 100 and with the total monthly price of Rs 600will be able to get 13GB 4G data from Airtel. Essentially Airtel’s offer makesthe data as cheap as the Jio data, although overall the cost of Jio is still lower and the Jio plan is still simpler. It is also available all Jio users whereas the Airtel offer could be selective to specific users. This is not the first time Airtel has responded to the threat from Jio. Since Jio was launched publicly on September 5, Airtel and Vodafone, which are the two biggest telecom operators in India, are keeping a close watch on it. Although in the beginning they didn’t respond, by December they were coming out withnew plans day after day. This is something Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani highlighted in on Tuesday while he launched the Jio Prime. “In the last few months, hundreds of offers have been launched by the industry. These plans have created a lot of confusionin the market and customers are having what I call data and value anxiety, whether they are getting the best value for the price that they are paying,” said Ambani. He then added that Jio will match all these offers and provide consumers 20 per cent more data. While the threat from Jio is formidable for companies like Airtel and Vodafone, in the last couple of months they have been able to respond in a fairly well-thought out manner and has retained customers. Airtel has revamped its pre-paid plans as well as has made Infinity Plans for post-paid consumers cheaper. Vodafone, meanwhile, has come with new Red plans as well as has launched the innovative Rs 15 top up plan, which gives consumers unlimited 4G data for one hour. Essentially, the Vodafone’s hourly plan offers data at a price that is even cheaper than what Jio provides.

Reliance Jio free
services now till March 31, 2017: Here are the detailsReliance Jio's free data and voice call offer has been extended till March 31, 2017, and will be called Happy New Year offer.By:Tech Desk|Updated: January 2, 2017 3:24 pmReliance Jio’s Happy New Year Offer will replace the Welcome Offer and theservices are now free till March 31. 2017. Here are the details.Reliance Jio isn’t merely a telecom service provider, given they now have over 52 million subscribers in just under three months and are growing faster thanFacebook, WhatsApp orSkype, if you go by the statementof RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani. In a major announcement, Ambani announced that they will rename the ‘Welcome Offer’ to ‘Happy New Year Offer’, which will now continue till March 31, 2017.At an event held in Mumbai, the RIL chief made a number of key announcements about Reliance Jio.  So what exactly is the future of Reliance Jio, what happens to the Welcome Offer, and what is the ‘Happy New Year Offer? We answer all your questions aroundtoday’s big announcement.WATCH VIDEO | Reliance Jio’s Happy New Year Offer Begins: Here’s Are The DetailsReliance Jio Happy New Year offer vs Welcome Offer First, Reliance has not scrapped the ‘Welcome Offer’, but just renamed the offer. For starters, users on the Welcome Offer will also be moved to the Happy New Year Offer from January 1, 2017. Also the free voice-call, video-call, free data and access to Jio apps has been extended till March 31, 2017.All existing customer will continue to take advantage of thedata, calls, and full bouquet of apps for free till March 31, 2017. Sadly new users who come on the Reliance Jio service after December 4 will be added straight to the Happy New Year Offer, and not to the Welcome Offer. So how does that matter? Well the Happy New Year Offer comes with an FUP limit that is only 1GB per day. Yes, that’s right; compared to the 4GB FUP on the Welcome Offer, Happy New Year will limit how much free high-speed data you can download on the Jio network.Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani says this was done because some users are misusing their free data privileges and clogging it up for the rest of the people on the networks. This is not surprising to hear given this is free data we are talking about. Jio will reduce speeds to 128kbps after a user exhausts the 1GB limit on the Happy New Year plan.

Researchers Warn: The Brain Can Eat Itself Up If You Do This One Thing! I'm Never Doing It Again!
Feel Healthy Life 15 Feb. 2017 07:35
Nine interesting facts about the human brain
The brain has got to be the most fascinating organ of the human body. Scientists have yet to fathom all its mysteries, so research that emerges on it is still often totally surprising and new. In fact, you've probably never heard of these nine new discoveries:
1. The brain is prone to dehydration
The human brain consists of about 3/4 water. Even when it's only 2% dehydrated it's enough to affect short-term memory and concentration negatively. That's one of the reasons you should be drinking at least eight cups of water per day.
2. You make most of your decisions unconsciously
You can weigh pros and cons all you want. But 95% of your decisions are still made totally unconsciously. (Though there are ways to bring some of those into your conscious mind...)

3. The brain can eat itself up
This sounds pretty gruesome but it can actually happen. Our brains use a quarter of the calories we eat so crash diets, in particular, can lead to the brain being seriously undernourished. To compensate, it starts to destroy itself by using up brain cells just for energy. It's a type of self-preserving cannibalism.
To avoid that happening it's important to get enough healthy sustenance for your body, so no more yo-yo diets if you want to stay smart!
4. Sweating can shrink your brain
Exercise is healthy and a real fountain of youth. But you shouldn't overdo it: scientists have found that after an hour and a half of decent sweating your brain starts to shrink. In the next 90 minutes of sweaty exercise it can shrink as much as it might otherwise do in a year. Not surprising when you remember that it consists of 73% water. So again, drink enough — especially at the gym — and consider breaking up your longer workouts into shorter segments.
5. The brain doesn't store information when you're drunk
If you wake up blank and ask yourself what the heck happened last night, then you probably drank too much. These blackouts aren't actually "forgetting" because your brain never stored the information in the first place. Drinking isn't only bad for your internal organs (poor liver!), it disables your brain. It simply can't store info when you're too drunk.
That can leave you in quite a vulnerable position (unless of course you're at an event you'd much rather forget).
6. Our brain's attention span is shorter than that of a goldfish
It sounds like an insult but it's been scientifically demonstrated: the brain's attention spans eight seconds, goldfish manage nine. And that's part of why we're multitasking geniuses since we can handle a lot of different tasks practically simultaneously.
7. The brain doesn't know what pain is
When we stumble and fall, our brain sends a signal out so that we feel pain. But the brain itself doesn't have any ability to feel pain. The skull and cerebral membrane have pain receptors but not the organ itself. That's why operations on the brain can be performed without any anesthetic.
8. Your brain needs the same amount of energy as a lightbulb
Even on a day where you do nothing at all, your brain still needs a fifth of your total energy. It's about what an old 25 watt bulb used up in a day.
9. Your brain is still developing until you're 25
At some point it has to stop, and that's what happens when you're 25. By 26 your brain is fully matured and doesn't develop further. However — and this is big — there's tons of astonishing research into the plasticity of the brain which shows that even though your brain's blueprint is there, it can keep learning and changing forever.
What an incredible organ sitting right up there inside our skulls: it's always useful to know more about what it can do — and how to take good care of it!
