NEW DELHI: Every year there is controversy over the sighting of the crescent moon of ‘Shawwal’
This year, Eid-Al-Fitr or the “Feast of Breaking the Fast”, is expected to fall on Friday, June 15, in most Islamic countries, according to International Astronomical Centre (IAC).
The IAC on Wednesday said that the moon crescent is likely be seen on the night of June 14 with the naked eye or through a telescope and if the new moon is spotted, then most countries will celebrate the Eid marked the first day of Shawwal on the same day.
Like millions of Muslims around the world, Indian devotees celebrate the month of Ramadan, the solemn period of reassessment by abstaining from eating, drinking, and other activities from dawn to dusk. Following the sighting of the moon, people seen greeting each other and began celebrating Eid.
