Srinagar, Mar 19 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir police Sunday said that providing a security cover and bullet proof vehicle to a Conman from Gujrat who posed himself as a PMO official, was not an intelligence failure but a “mistake” which is being investigated.

“We don’t provide security cover to anyone on verbal communique or order,” ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar told reporters, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar. Asked whether providing security cover to Conman was a security lapse and intelligence failure, the ADGP said: “It was not an intelligence failure but yes a mistake for sure which is being investigated.” He, however, said that any officer who ordered for providing security to the Conman will be dealt with.

About the query about possible rise in the crime rate, he said that there is no surge in the crime rate but there is an increase in reporting the crimes by the people who trust police for its thorough investigations. “Crime cases are being investigated thoroughly and culprits are being arrested and punished as well,” he said.

H3N2 a common seasonal flu virus, in circulation for last 55 years’

With spring spike of influenza cases in Kashmir valley, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Monday attributed the surge to lower levels of natural immunity in the population against flu viruses.

“People haven’t been exposed to influenza in the past two flu seasons due to Covid restrictions which has led to lower levels of natural immunity within the population,” said DAK President and influenza expert Dr Nisar ul Hassan.

Dr Hassan said we see influenza cases every year during winter months.

But the last two seasons witnessed negligible flu cases. The decline was because of Covid precautions such as face masking and social distancing.

“Now that people are out without masks, travelling extensively, business has resumed and children are back to schools, flu has made a comeback,” he said.

The DAK President said in typical years a good percentage of the population gets infected with these viruses and builds immunity against the infections.

What we are seeing are a couple of years where we didn’t see infections.

“So more people are susceptible to these viruses that is causing spike in cases in this season,” he said.

Dr Nisar said flu viruses have a tendency to mutate. Small changes keep on happening. And that could be another reason that we have severe and prolonged flu cases in unusual time of this year’s flu season.

He said H3N2 flu virus is not new. It is the commonest seasonal flu virus and is in circulation for the last 55 years.

The 1968 flu pandemic was caused by H3N2. The pandemic was over in two years, but the virus became a seasonal affair, peaks in every winter causing milder illness.

“Though H3N2 virus is dominant, H1N1 popularly called swine flu has been reported in significant number of influenza cases in Kashmir,” he added.

General Secretary DAK Dr Arshad Ali said people who develop flu symptoms like cough, fever, runny nose and sorethroat should isolate themselves till their symptoms resolve.

“Doctors should prescribe antiviral medicines instead of antibiotics to flu patients,” he said.

Job aspirants protest against JKSSB in Srinagar, demand ban on Aptech for conducting exams

Srinagar, Mar 8: Scores of Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) job aspirants gathered here in Press Enclave on Wednesday to protest against the purported grant of contract to APTECH Ltd. for conduct of various exams.

The protesters, as reported by GNS, demanded that the LG administration must investigate as to why paper leaks and scams only occur in Kashmir.

blacklisted companies should be banned in Jammu and Kashmir, until action is taken against these blacklisted companies, no student will sit for any competitive exams,” the protestors said.

The protesters alleged that APTECH Ltd. has been involved in numerous scams in other parts of the country including in Rajasthan, Leh, Ambala, and others. “Many national papers have also highlighted these scams, nothing significant is being done to allay the apprehensions of the job aspirants” they said.

The protesters demanded that the Lieutenant Governor administration should rise to the occasion and take necessary measures for the larger benefit of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Aspirants and political leaders across the spectrum have castigated JKSSB for hiring Aptech after the latest recruitment examination calendar was issued.

An @adgpi court of inquiry has recommended life imprisonment for a Captain accused of murdering 3 #Kashmiri labourers after passing them off as terrorists

Srinagar: On 19 July 2020, a brigadier addressed a press conference at an army unit in Awantipora, 33 km from Srinagar, describing vividly an operation by his unit that led to the fatal shooting of three “hardcore terrorists”.

Five months later, a chargesheet filed by the Jammu & Kashmir police called the site of the operation, in Amshipora village of south Kashmir’s sensitive Shopian district, a “crime scene of murder”.

A sessions court in Shopian is now hearing a case against one civilian accused, and an army captain is facing a court martial.

Brigadier Ajay Katoch, Commander of 12 Sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR) stationed in Shopian, said at the press meet that in the wee hours of 18 July, “precisely at 02:00 hours”, the Army received “human intelligence inputs” about the presence of four to five unidentified militants in Amshipora.

Brigadier Katoch said that at 2.45 am, a team laying a cordon to flush out the militants came under “heavy fire”, and at 5.30 am, a search party sent into a small, newly constructed house was met with gunfire. The Army team lobbed grenades and, Katoch said, “retaliated”, causing three terrorists to be “neutralized”.

The chargesheet filed by the police, against an Army captain and others, contradicts almost every claim made at the press conference. It holds that there was no civilian intelligence—a captain of 62 RR undertook a solitary operation, a fact corroborated by four Army witnesses.

Soldiers who joined the encounter later heard a “few bursts of fire” as they were approaching on foot, according to the chargesheet. This means the first shots were fired and the alleged militants dead before the Army team arrived. No search unit was sent into the house.

NIA Attaches Property Of Hizb Militant Basit Reshi in Baramulla

Srinagar, Mar 3: National Investigation Agency on Friday attached the property of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Basit Reshi in Sopore area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.

According to the Home Ministry, Basit Ahmad Reshi is a member of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and was involved in “subversive activities and coordinating target killings” in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NIA claims that Reshi planned and executed an attack on a police guard post at Tujar Sherief on August 18, 2015, in which police personnel and a civilian were killed.

Born on 4 March 1996, Reshi is resident of Yemberzalwari Shiva Dangerpora Sopore area of Baramulla district and as per NIA he is presently in Pakistan.

'Militants couldn't do anything to me...': Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo account at Cambridge

'Militants couldn't do anything to me...': Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo account at Cambridge

Rahul Gandhi said during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir a person came to him and showed ‘militants’ who were keeping a watch on Rahul Gandhi. “I felt I was in trouble but nothing happened as I went there only to listen with no violence in me,” Rahul Gandhi said.

Though security personnel were not in favour of Gandhi allowing that person to walk along with him, Rahul Gandhi called the person. "The man asked me, 'Mr Gandhi, have you really come here to listen to us?'. I said 'yes'. He said, 'Do you see those boys over there?' I said, 'Yes'. He said, 'They are militants," Rahul Gandhi narrated.

"Militants should normally kill me. In that environment, they should kill me. The man said they are there and they are looking at you. I looked at them. and thought that I was in trouble. They were giving me this look, I am serious and I gave the look back and nothing happened, we just carried on. Why I am telling you this because they actually couldn't do anything because they actually did not have the power to do anything, even if they wanted to. Because I came into that environment to listen, with no violence in me at all. And the vast number of people there saw that. That to me was the indicator of the power of listening and non-violence," Rahul Gandhi said as he spoke on the topic of Learning to Listen in the 21st ce
